About Axicon
Axicon Auto ID is a world leader in barcode verification, having developed and manufactured our own verifiers since 1989. Axicon barcode verifiers are used across the globe and are fully compliant with the international ISO/IEC standards for both linear and matrix bar codes. These verifiers are used to measure the quality of printed barcodes, on all levels of product packaging.
Established in 1979 as a provider of high-quality barcode images for the printing industry, we still specialise in producing barcode images, and barcode labels, as well as a range of barcode verification equipment. We also provide a range of services to support our clients, including training, consultancy, and barcode verification.
Axicon develops, manufactures and maintains its range of barcode verifiers at the company headquarters, north of Oxford. Our range of barcode verifiers is distributed through a network of international partners across the globe, and our clients include major manufacturers and retailers worldwide.
We have also always been involved in the creation and updating of UK and international standards for identification and barcoding. Our staff have contributed to the work of GS1 UK, as well as BSI’s IST/34 committee which helps develop the ISO/IEC standards concerning barcodes and verification. We also contribute to GS1’s Barcode Technology Group and the development of the GS1 General Specifications.
We have specialised in all aspects of barcode excellence for over 30 years and the name Axicon is now synonymous with barcode quality.

The latest version of the Axicon Camera Verifier software now has an option to apply the ISO/IEC 29158 analysis which users can select if it is appropriate for the Data Matrix symbol that they are needing to grade. Images captured with existing Axicon 15000 series verifiers will be analysed and graded to whichever quality standard the user chooses, enhancing the capability of this product range."
New Axicon Camera Verifier software update adds DPM
Axicon are pleased to announce their latest software release, version 4.0, which includes the option to analyse captured images of direct part marked Data Matrix symbols according to the ISO/IEC 29158 standard for checking the quality of those marks.
When substrates are directly marked, the contrast difference between the modules of the symbol is often much smaller than when Data Matrix symbols are printed on labels which are attached to the product. The DPM quality guideline provides a method for optimising these low contrast symbols so that they can be analysed and graded using parameters that are similar to those defined in the 2D print quality standard, ISO/IEC 15415, but with modifications to take into account the lower contrast difference that is inherent with DPM symbols.
New Axicon 7100-S linear barcode verifier – November 2022
Axicon has launched its new Axicon 7100-S barcode verifier, which is designed to read the larger barcodes usually produced for outer cases and pallet labels. It is compliant with ISO/IEC 15426-1, is CE and UKCA certified, and has a two-year manufacturer’s warranty. It has also been approved by GS1 UK.
This new verifier is a replacement for the Axicon 7015 and 7025-S verifiers. It has a continuous scan option which means an operator can capture multiple reads through the height of the symbol with only one operation. The verifier itself has to be moved across the barcode to achieve this, and this technique is quickly learnt. This means that the verification process is faster and uses more than the minimum of ten scans that the international standards require.
The 7100-S uses the same software as all the other Axicon linear barcode verifiers so users will have no difficulty in using it and interpreting its results. This means it can be used with computers running the Windows operating system, and with the Android app on some tablets and other suitable Android devices.
“We are pleased to announce this replacement for the 7000 series verifiers, as we have been able to include incremental design improvements that we first introduced in our Axicon 15000 range of verifiers”, said Martin Morrison, Axicon managing director. “The efficiencies in production that we have been able to make mean that we are able to offer this at a lower price than its predecessor.”
The Axicon 7100-S can be ordered now from Axicon or any of its resellers, and deliveries will begin from the middle of November.
